Croydon in a winter wonderland

Today it snowed!

Sadly it then sleeted, so the snow didn't stick around long. It brought back memories of other times it's snowed here.

2008

The oldest snow photos I have in Croydon are from April 2008. I remember that I'd been in Bristol the previous day sitting in the sun and then when I got back to Croydon, it snowed. The photo below is from Park Hill Park, in the walled garden which is now run by the Friends of Park Hill. You can see Taberner House, since demolished, left of centre behind the trees.

2010

In November 2010, it snowed more heavily and I went out with a friend to take photos. The photo below shows traffic in the town centre heading towards the Flyover, with Taberner House on the right.

2012

Here's a photo of an icy Waddon Ponds in February 2012, taken from the brick bridge. At this time, the council were doing work to make the ponds more appealing to certain birds and try to discourage others (Canada geese).

2018

In late February and early March 2018 (almost three years ago now - wow) it snowed. There had already been some warm, sunny weather in February, so the snow was quite a change.

2021

Getting back to the present day, in early January it snowed in some areas of Croydon. I saw some snow at Riddlesdown.

  1. I always enjoy your photos of Croydon, which I know so well. Haven't been to South Norwood Country Park for many years though. Your photos and several other tweeters remind me that I should make the effort to return.
